Moving Outside the Comfort Zone
Growth can only happen when we move beyond the borders of our comfort zone. It’s painful, can even be excruciating but is well worth the effort. The space beyond our comfort zone is uncharted territory, and we have to update our map of life at times when new learning is introduced.
But somehow, finally, we begin to see the full picture of all life if we continue to push our borders, but it only happens when we take the courage of exploring and being willing to put up with the pain that is always involved. This may mean evaluating your lifestyle habits and making committed changes or starting at a new class where you don’t know anyone but meet new people and possibly make new friends as a result.
A person can get to the stage where they become so exposed to a flavourful array of experiences that they can begin to piece life together and their role in the world. They know themselves, they become.
For anyone interested in good reads on this here are the following books I recommend:
The best thing is to just get out there and start exploring, the more you expose yourself to events and other people the faster understanding comes to you. When you finally get stuck into what you’re interested in, you embark on a journey of finding your identity which eventually leads onto self actualisation. Placing yourself at the top of Maslow’s pyramid is a goal that everyone can achieve.
To sum up personal growth really it is this: courage in taking the first step, risk taking and learning as a result. It can be essentially learning by doing, developing whilst implementing and committing to it.
One thing that worked brilliantly for me was journalling. Writing down your thoughts and feelings could eventually lead to insights and clarity about yourself and/or a situation whether positive or negative. Even just having the knowledge can be empowering and spur personal growth.
